Digital Painting Tutorial with Video by ReneAigner Digital Painting Tutorial with Video by ReneAigner

I've been asked to do a tutorial on landscape painting a few times.
So I recorded this video, sped it up and then commented on it. I though 18 minutes would be ample, but it turned out to be a very short time, so I only got to mention a few things- if you like this type of video, I'll probably do more soon.

Your video has helped me so much, and actually got me out of my artist block, even if only for today x3 beautiful, beautiful this piece is. It is stunning. If this isn't weird, your voice was easy to listen to also, I've had the problem of peoples voices annoying me, for some reason xD Thank you for posting!

I really like how you painted the rocks. May I ask what tool you used to colour the rocks? I think it was a sort of selection tool. Also, how do you select the sky's as a reflection and place it on the selected parts of the rocks?

Thank you! And absolutely amazing work. :)

Oh man that is awesome, but without talent of being a good Painter i guess i will not be able to ever make such wonderful Artworks tho i would really love to.
ReneAigner Featured By Owner Jan 8, 2013
Don't go down that road of thought! Talent is a myth. All talent is is motivation, dedicated study and a lot of practice and time. ANYONE can do this.

tanks so much! A always wanted to learn painting landscapes as I have many ideas for them in my had, but had no clue how to start.
This is very helpful :)

And just one more question: where your first digital works made with reference photos? And do you consider this as helpful or imitative? You said that we should search for techniques and ideas of others, but I'm afraid it may not be enough for a complete newbie.
Cause I'd love to try myself in landscapes but I'm aware of my terrible leak of knowledge.

I actually got inspired with your process video. I might do some landscape painting, even though I'm usually a person painter. Awesome work!

I really like this painting, and the tutorial is very inspiring! :D I have a question, what kind of brush did you use for the smoke/mist? It looks really handy

And If you'd like some critique (so the next one will be even better:3), I'd tell a little bit more about what layers you are using, what opacity, and just in general a little bit more specific about the techniques you use ;D other than that, keep on making these videos please <3
